With the announcement of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, we see the same domination from the so called 'top four'. Eight of the 11 players selected came from either Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea, however I think their have been a few oversights in this team.
The PFA named the following team as their 'Team of the Year'....
Goalkeeper - Edwin Van Der Sar (Man Utd)
Defenders - Bacary Sagna (Arsenal), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd), Vincent Kompany (Man City).
Midfielders - Luis Nani (Man Utd), Samir Nasri (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Gareth Bale (Tottenham).
Strikers - Carlos Tevez (Man City), Dimitar Berbatov (Man Utd).
Leighton Baines has had an outstanding season for Everton but was completely overlooked! Photo: People. |
Whilst it is difficult to disagree with some of the entries, it is possible to state a case for some players who have been overlooked! My PFA Team of the Year would have looked a little something like this...
Goalkeeper - Joe Hart (Man City)
Defenders - Leighton Baines (Everton), Nemanja Vidic (Man Utd), Robert Huth (Stoke), Vincent Kompany (Man City).
Midfielders - Charlie Adam (Blackpool), Scott Parker (West Ham), Luis Nani (Man Utd), Gareth Bale (Tottenham).
Strikers - Carlos Tevez (Man City), Dimitar Berbatov (Man Utd).
Changes Explained
Joe Hart has been in exceptional form for Man City this season. The young England Goalkeeper has made 102 saves compared to Edwin Van Der Sar's 67. Hart has also kept 14 clean sheets compared to Van Der Sar's 12.
Leighton Baines has had an outstanding in spite of the fact that Everton have severely under-achieved. Baines has not missed one minute of Premier League football this season (A.Cole has missed only 90 mins). Baines has an incredible 11 assists in the Premier League alone in comparison to Ashley Cole's four. It is difficult to see how the Everton man has been overlooked, despite the fact that Ashley Cole is very strong in the left-back position.
Robert Huth remains part of a Stoke side that has reached the FA Cup final and has performed well in the Premier League. Huth's main success this season has been his ability to contribute going forward. With six goals and three assists he has certainly done this. Strong with and without the ball, he has been one of the main reason's for Stoke's relatively successful season to date.
Charlie Adam has almost singlehandedly carried Blackpool on occasions this season. Nine goals and seven assists have not even begun to describe the way in which Adam can play. He is often the standout performer in many games he takes part in. Granted, on a few occasions this season he has 'gone missing'; the consequences of which have been clear to see. However, when he is at his best he has been simply sensational as part of a team that find themselves nearing the foot of the table.

Scott Parker has for a long time been tipped for a move away from his beloved West Ham. The Hammers find themselves 19th in the table, but Scott Parker has been consistently very good. West Ham's influential talisman will feel very hard done by not to be rewarded for his tireless work ethic and lasting quality in the holding role.
Brede Hangeland, Phil Jagielka, Clint Dempsey, Yaya Toure, Rafael Van der Vaart, Dider Drogba and Asamoah Gyan all came very close as well!
